Wondrous Item, artifact (requires attunement)

This magical shawl born from the magic of the shadowfell meeting the life force of a phoenix, grants the wearer great power, but also puts them at great risk of falling to the dark powers that control the shadowfell. For Phoenixes of the shadowfell are dark creatures, omens of death and destruction and their influence and power should not be taken lightly.

This set of armor grants its wearer a +1 bonus to their AC and saving throws. Additionally it grants them resistance to both Fire and Cold damage.

On Blackened Wings: When you attune to this armor you grow a large pair of dark wings, ignited in an eerie black and green flame. These wings grant the wearer a fly speed equal to their walking speed. if they already have a fly speed, it increases by 15 feet. Additionally you may use the wings as a makeshift defense. As a reaction to being attacked, you may interpose the wing between yourself and the attacker, attempting to deflect the strike. When you take this reaction you impose disadvantage on the attack and potentially causing it to miss entirely.

Ghostflame Mastery: Being infused with darkened flames, you become adept at controlling and manipulating fire, as well as converting normal fire into the flames of the dark phoenix. While attuned you know the Control Flames, Produce Flame, and Green Flame Blade Cantrips. Whenever you cast any of these, the fire takes on an ethereal greenish hue and the damage type becomes Cold.

Phoenix Transformation: You may channel energy form the shadowfell and cause your body to undergo a transformation. As a bonus action you may transform into an otherworldly hybrid of phoenix. Your wings become completely fire, your hair becomes a billowing plume of ghostly flames, and your feet become talons. This transformation lasts for 10 minutes and you must maintain it as if concentration on a spell, while active it grants the following benefits;

  • You fall under the effects of the Fire Shield(Cold) Spell
  • You may dash as a bonus action while flying.
  • Your AC increases by 2
  • Your feet become natural weapons. These deal 1d8 Slashing plus 1d8 Cold Damage on a hit and are considered magical for the purposes of overcoming resistances.
  • You regenerate 10 hp at the start of each of your turns.
  • You gain advantage on the 1st melee or spell attack roll you make in a turn.
  • You deal an extra 2d10 cold damage whenever you deal damage with an attack or spell.

Once the transformation ends, you must complete a short or long rest before doing so again.

Soaring Flames: You gain the ability to create and manipulate the ethereal flames and utilize them as weapons against your enemies. You unfurl your wings and send a barrage of flaming feathers at a target you can see within 60 feet. When you take the attack action, you may replace one of your attacks with this, as the feathers burst into flames and take the shape of a phoenix. Make a spell attack roll using your Charisma, on a hit the target takes 1d10 cold damage plus an additional 1d1d0 cold damage per level of spell slot expended. if you do not take the attack action, you can instead do this as a bonus action. You may use this attack a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses upon completing a long rest.

Deathless Rebirth: When attuned to this armor, if you would fall unconscious due to hitting 0 HP, you can immediately use your reaction to drop to 1 HP instead. When you do this, you gain 50 temporary HP and ethereal fire erupts from all around you. All creatures within 15 feet of you when you use this reaction must make a dexterity save against your spell DC. On a failure, affected creatures take 5d10 Necrotic damage, taking 1/2 damage on a success. Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again until you complete a long rest.

Phoenix Magic: While attuned the following spells are added to you list of spells known. these spells are always prepared and don't count against the number of spells you can know/prepare for a day. You may cast each spell once without expending a spell slot or material components, after which you must complete a long rest before doing so again; Phoenix Wreath*, Aganazzer's Scorcher, Fireball, Summon Elemental, Invesiture of Flame. Additionally, any time you would deal fire damage with a spell or ability, you may choose to deal Cold or Necrotic Damage instead.(*Phoenix Wreath is a spell listed on dnd beyond, created by me)
