A old tome about standard book length and height, the width of the book seems to change at a turn of each page whenever the owner of the book attaches parts of creature matter in pages from a creature not previously documented in the book. This book has roughly seventy pages of basic Fauna and Flora found in typical environments an adventurer will travel, but can also bring new information on newly documented creatures depending on the amount or quality of matter the book has "integrated" between pages,
The pages of the book are of a leather like flexibility but can vary from a course texture like reptilian scales, to a smooth and slippery texture of an amphibian or other such animal, depending on the entries being searched for when consulting the Index of the book. Almost verbally commanded to be accurate, a owner of this book can spend hours trying to search through entries of seemingly growing pages as the book never actually gets bigger but seems to never make progress through its pages unless consulting the Index prior to searching for a specific creature entry. Different ways of consulting the book can be attempted like searching through Beholder entries for example can accurately search individual Beholders and their identities for they are creatures that have individual personalities, but the book can also catalog through Beholder subtypes and off spring or mutations/evolutions of a Beholder gene tree, ex: Lich Beholders, Watchers, etc.
This book cannot be burned, soaked, aged, torn, ripped, or dissolved through regular means, magical attempts only slightly damage the covers of the book but the contents and pages themselves repair nearly instantaneously while preserving all of its contents as if damage had never occurred. Detect magic will find this book, but to trace this books origin is to feel a connection to multiple sources of magic, as if this book has been constructed and written by multiple realms and keeps being fueled with magical energy and information from worlds beyond at all times.
