This magic weapon was a gift from Nidrama to Surabar Spellmason, a gift intended to give the wizard an edge against the demonic legions under Nabthatoron's command. Several decades after Surabar's death, a group of bandits stole Alakast from the wizard's tomb. These tomb robbers met a grisly end only a few days later on the Demonskar's rim, and for some time Alakast lay forgotten in these ruins until it was discovered by a coven of half-fey green hags.
Alakast is fashioned of pale, almost white wood, and close inspection of the wood grain reveals strange flowing runes that spell out its name in Celestial. Alakast currently takes the form of a +1 fiend bane quarterstaff - both ends of the quarterstaff bear this enchantment. Alakast radiates good if such is detected for, and it penetrates damage resistance.
You gain the following benefits while holding this magic weapon:
- You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
- You have advantage on attacks rolls against fiends made with this magic weapon.
- When you roll a 20 on an attack roll with this weapon against a fiend, that fiend must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or drop to 0 hit points.
- You can’t be surprised by fiends while you’re not incapacitated. You are also aware when fiends are within 120 feet of you and aren’t behind total cover, although you don’t know their location.
- You and any of your friends within 30 feet of you can’t be frightened while you’re not incapacitated.
- When a character first attunes to Alakast, it takes the form of their chosen weapon. Once attuned, you may alter its form to any simple or martial melee weapon that does not have the heavy or thrown tag by spending one hour of focused meditation, after which Alakast may not be changed in this way again for seven days.
Sentience. Alakast is a sentient, good weapon with an Intelligence of 8, a Wisdom of 14, and a Charisma of 12. It can see and hear out to 120 feet and has darkvision. It communicates by transmitting emotions to its wielder, although on rare occasions it uses a limited form of telepathy to bring to the wielder’s mind a celestial dirge or battle hymn.
Personality. Alakast is serious, taciturn, and inflexible. It knows little more than the desire to face fiends in battle and serve a courageous, just wielder. It disdains cowards and any form of duplicity, deception, or disloyalty. The weapon’s purpose is to defend humanoids and to serve as a symbol of angelic resolve. It hates the traditional foes of celestials — devils, yugoloths, and, most of all, demons — and silently urges its possessor to meet such creatures in battle.
Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
Notes: Bonus: Magic, Immunity: Frightened, good aligned non-fiend humanoid, Damage, Combat, Shapechanging, Warding, Bane, Versatile, Topple
