This Axe was created by two enchanters who were once inseparable friends, but now find themselves enemies to each other.
Once two creatures are attuned to this axe, they are bonded by strong enchantment magic. A Detect Magic or Identify spell cast on this axe while two creatures are attuned to it reveals an incorporeal string between the two attuned creatures. This string may be interacted with by a creature on the Ethereal Plane only. If this string is severed, both creatures take 10d12 psychic damage and become stunned for 10 minutes while wracked with pain. The string is not considered severed if one or both of the creatures chooses to un-attune to the Axe of Bonding or if one or both of the attuned creatures dies.
Bonded in Life: If both creatures are conscious and on the same plane of existence, either of the creatures who are attuned to this axe may cast spells as if they originated from the other creature, including spells whose range is self. Magical abilities (including but not limited to Divine Smite, Warlock Invocations, Channel Divinity, etc.) do not apply in this way.
Bonded in Death: If both creatures are on the same plane of existence and one of them should fall unconscious and begin making Death Saving Throws, the second creature instantly becomes aware of the other's situation and can use their reaction to inflict a permanent death fail upon themselves. This will cause the unconscious creature to wake up with half of their maximum hit points and all spells slots restored (if any).
Power of Friendship: If the axe is used as a weapon by one of the attuned creatures, they gain a +1 to attack and damage rolls used by the axe as well as an additional 1d4 psychic damage on a hit.
Proficiency with a Battleaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage: Psychic, by two willing creatures, Versatile, Topple
