The Aegis of the Living Flame is a tall shield, standing 6 feet tall, made of iron and wood. When attuned to a flame, the wood of this shield smolders, but never fades.
While holding the Aegis of the Living Flame, you gain a +3 bonus to AC. You can take an attack action with the shield, using strength as your attack modifier. On a hit, the shield deals bludgeoning damage equal to 1d6 plus your Strength modifier. Proficiency with a shield* allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
Additionally, the shield has 4 charges, and it regains 1d4 expended charges daily at dawn. If you are holding the shield and are targeted with a ranged spell attack, you can, as a reaction, cast the Counterspell spell against the spell. If the counterspell is successful, for the next minute, the next time you deal damage with the shield, the target takes an additional 1d6 fire damage.
This shield counts as both a weapon and a shield. You can benefit from only one shield at a time.
* Due to restrictions with the DnDBeyond infrastructure, proficiency with a mace is required for proper use of this item. For this reason, proficiency in maces is provided with this item.
Proficiency with a Mace allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, Weapon Property: Heavy, Weapon Property: Two-Handed, Proficiency: Mace, Light the shield on fire, Damage, Control, Utility, Combat, Warding, Sap
