When you eat it, you instantly gain access to very creature within 500 feet's inner thoughts and line of sight without them getting to make a saving throw. You still have control over your own body and can chose to let go of individual creatures when you choose. If your original body takes damage while you are still using the effects, then the connection is broken. The cake instantly regenerates after you eat it. You cannot control other creatures when using this spell, but you know exactly what they are thinking and what they see.
When you eat the cake, a halo appears over your head and changes colors at rapid speed. When you break connection the halo shatters into a million pieces and fades away.
