While wearing the amulet, concentrating on a whispered conversation within normal hearing range will allow the wearer to hear the conversation as if it was being spoken in a loud voice. Conversely, concentrating while wearing the amulet will make a normal conversation held by the wearer and up to 5 other people be heard as an indecipherable whisper to everyone greater that 2 feet from the conversation.
