Weapon (battleaxe), artifact (requires attunement by a by a Goblinoid)

The fabled Axe of Mablubyiet lost ages ago in the war with humanity.

Magic Weapon. The Axe of Mablubyiet is a magic weapon that grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it. The axe also functions as a Rod of Rulership, a Sword of Wounding and Gloves of Thievery.

Additional Effects. While attuned to the axe, you gain the following benefits:

  • You gain a +1 bonus to AC.
  • You gain proficiency in battleaxes.
  • You can cast the Heroes Feast spell once regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
  • Any gemstones you touch cloud over, losing half their value in the process.
  • You have disadvantage on Death Saving Throws.

Union of Goblinoids. If you are a goblinoid attuned to the axe, you gain one the following benefits chosen at dawn:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened or stunned.
  • As a reaction, when an ally you can see within 30 feet misses an attack or fails a saving throw, you made add a d4 to the roll provided the ally can hear you.
  • As a reaction, when you or an adjacent ally is hit by an attack you may switch places with them (if the ally is willing) and choose which one of you is hit by the attack.

Curse. The axe bears a curse that affects any non-goblinoid that becomes attuned to it. Even if the attunement ends, the curse remains. With each passing day, the creature's physical appearance and stature become more goblinlike. After seven days, the creature looks like a typical goblinoid, but the creature neither loses its racial traits nor gains the racial traits of a goblinoid. The physical changes wrought by the axe aren't considered magical in nature (and therefore can't be dispelled), but they can be undone by any effect that removes a curse, such as a Greater Restoration or Remove Curse spell.

Destroying the Axe. The only way to destroy the axe is to slay Maglubyeit with it, destroying both the axe and the soul of Maglubyiet in the process.

Proficiency with a Battleaxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
