Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a Must attune to the item over the period of a long rest, and speak the passphrase upon completion.)

This is unfinished material, published here to give public access for feedback and advice. Once the final version is complete, a link will be posted to the finished content. Feel free to leave comments and advice here or in the r/UnearthedArcana subreddit, within the Arcana Forge.

(This is basically a whole chapter of information, sorry for the long read but I think this is something that can fill out any adventure. Please leave suggestions in comments! I want to refine and improve the design for this item without making it game-breaking. At the end of the day, as with all thing in D&D, it's up to the players and the GM to create the best experience possible. You can take this in any direction you want in your own campaigns, and I'd love to hear any feedback you have! Enjoy my small novel of information.)

This simple looking leather bag can hold everything an adventurer could need on their travels. Contained within is a pocket of astral space, which can be expanded upon and customized by the player.

As an action, speaking the correct passphrase while holding the bag or when within a 5-foot range of the bag allows the player to enter, and for an additional action from anywhere inside the bag to exit the bag, returning to the space of their choice within 5 feet of the bag.

In addition, items may be summoned forth from the bag by using a bonus action and speaking the correct passphrase, the name of the item desired, and any quantities if necessary. The items appear in the hands of the player, or on the nearest flat surface if desired. Conversely, items may be stowed in the bag in the same way, speaking the correct passphrase and if desired, naming the room within the bag in which to place the item. If not specified, items appear within the treasure room of the bag. An item (or items) placed must be freestanding and able to be moved, i.e. you can't place a building inside the magic bag, or anything that is chained, tied, or magically affixed to an immovable surface like the ground or a wall.

Upon first entering the bag, the player is able to decide the appearance of the floors, walls, and ceiling of the rooms at the GM's discretion. The bag initially contains four rooms: a bedroom (with a bed, desk, small chest, and wardrobe), an empty storage room with bare shelves on the walls, a treasure room (which expands as needed), and one additional room of the player's choice between a kitchen (open room with a fireplace and various needed cookware), a library (with bare shelves that expand as necessary and comfortable chairs for reading), and a bathroom (which magically disposes of waste as necessary).

Additional rooms can be created within the bag by collecting the necessary materials,  speaking the passphrase while holding the bag, and naming the room desired. The materials necessary to create rooms can be determined by the GM, guidelines and examples will be listed below. Instead of gathering materials and items to create rooms, players may instead substitute currency up to the value of the missing items. Regardless, for each room created, the player must provide 1,500 gold in addition to any materials or other currency.

  • Greenhouse
  • Kitchen
  • Treasure Room
  • Library
  • Blacksmiths Forge
  • Storage Room
  • Ice room
  • Bedroom
  • Bathroom
  • Pool
  • Temple/Alter Room

The positioning and layout of the rooms are determined by the player, and any connecting hallways are automatically created as needed.

Anything that is not placed inside the bag by the player cannot be brought outside the bag. For example, the player cannot bring the bed from the bedroom outside the bag. If a bed is brought inside the bag by the player, they can remove the bed from the bag if desired.

Items not owned by the player that are placed within the bag may be brought out of the bag by their owner without speaking the passphrase if the owner of the item in question knows that the item is within the bag.

(This item is based on the Magic Bag from the Adventurers Wanted book series by M.L. Forman. Mr. Forman and Co, please don't sue me.)
