A scimitar with a golden blade and black serrated edge, this cursèd weapon twists and amplifies a creature's lust for treasure and wealth, transforming it into a source of power and madness.
Hoarding slash. This scimitar deals an extra 1 point of slashing damage per 250gp carried by its wielder, up to a maximum of 10 extra damage.
Sentience. Avarice is a chaotic-evil scimitar. Intelligence 14(+2), Wisdom 8(-1), Charisma 18(+4). It has hearing and darkvision up to 60 feet and can speak telepathically to those within 30 feet. It can speak common, celestial and infernal and any language the wielder can speak.
Personality. Avarice is a simple minded intelligence which has the single clear goal of amassing as much wealth as possible, by any means necessary(some say the blade was forged using a dragon's fang). It seeks to be possessed by a wielder to achieve this goal and will attempt to incite any prospective wielder to pick it up with promises of wealth beyond measure. If the prospective wielder refuses to take it the blade will attempt to take control of them. The creature must make a DC 16 CHA saving throw or be forced to pick it up.
Curse of Hoarding. Once in a creature's possession, the creature cannot willingly drop the weapon except by a remove curse spell of 5th level or higher. Whenever the creature sees, hears or otherwise perceives money or treasure, the scimitar will command them to acquire said treasure. If the creature refuses, they must make a DC 12 CHA saving throw or be possessed by the scimitar, attempting to acquire the treasure by any means necessary. The creature can only attack using Avarice during this time. This effect ends when the creature picks up the treasure or after 1 minute if the treasure can no longer be perceived by the creature. The creature can also repeat the saving throw if it takes damage.
The look of jealousy, the terrible need, the madness in the eyes of those struck with the Dragon Sickness.
