An ancient relic of the past, this giant ruby is a fossil of the old world. One of the first rubies ever mined, and embedded into the eye sockets of the dead ancient white dragon, Thlaaklauthimir, by the Heroes of Ascore upon his defeat.
These rubies are large, and 30 lbs; worth 1000 gold. It can be broken into 20 smaller 50g shards, with jewelers tools. Rolling an 18 or higher allows the ruby to be successfully shattered. For every numeral lower than 18 rolled, one shard is destroyed in the process. IE: a d20 rolled at 13 looses 5 potential shards.
These ancient rubies can be used in place of all other monetary components required per one spell, per shard.
If a spell requires ruby dust, double the value of the dust from this ancient ruby. IE: 50g worth of ruby dust is worth 100g.
If the ancient shards are used in a spell, the spell gains an extra bonus. Roll a d4 and multiply the total damage by the roll.
