The Amulet of Jarlaxle is a cursed magical item that holds the corrupted soul of a fiend known as Jarlaxle. This spirit will whisper into the ear of the wearer and slowly corrupt them the more and more they use the amulet, or, the longer they wear it.
The fiend trapped within the amulet, The Spirit of Jarlaxle, has the ability to cast any spell upon request by the wearer, acting as an 18th level spell caster. The spell slot list follows that of an 18th level Wizard, but is not bound to only Wizard Spells. The Spirit of Jarlaxle may also refuse to cast a spell or even outright ignore the user if he does not feel the action would be worth his time.
The wearer can increase the chance of The Spirit of Jarlaxle casting the spell by proceeding to perform an action of the fiend's choosing. The average DC for persuading The Spirit of Jarlaxle is 20+ the spell cast level, however, agreeing to The Spirit of Jarlaxle's terms can lower the DC by 1d6. For every 3 agreements to The Spirit of Jarlaxle's Terms, the Amulet gains 1 charge.
Each time the wearer proceeds to request the use of a spell of 5th level or higher, the Amulet gains 1 Charge. This spell will not need a persuasion roll to be cast, but each time the Amulet reaches 3 charges, the charges will reset, and the wearer's alignment will shift one column or one row closer to Chaotic Evil, at the DM's choice of direction. The wearer is unaware of this change, and proceeds to act in their new alignment, believing that they have always been this way and that nothing has happened. Once the wearer reaches Chaotic Evil alignment, they cannot be separated from the Amulet, and will be under complete control of The Spirit of Jarlaxle. The only way to reverse this effect is to kill both The Spirit of Jarlaxle and the wearer, and then cast the spell Revivify on the body of the wearer, followed by a Greater Restoration to reverse the alignment.
