This item is typically found as a simple spool of multi-color thread. When attuned to by an artificer, the user may choose to weave the thread into a companion. This takes ten minutes for a skilled artificer. The companion is of a shape and color of the user's choosing, but requires a tool use roll (DC12) to succeed as requested. On failure the companion is weaved in a shape of the GM's choosing. On a natural 1 the companion fails to take shape. You may choose to change the shape of your Animated Thread at the end of a long rest, but you may not change or create a companion from the thread more than once until the next long rest.
Your companion, if successfully formed, is able to perform simple, peaceful, tasks. Delivering a message, scouting, observing, and other things at the GM's discretion based on your description of the activity. The companion is visible, but can easily pass as an inanimate object. You may choose to give it wings, but this does impart the power to fly. Your companion has 1 health, and an AC of 10. If your companion falls to 0 health the thread unravels and must be remade into a companion.
