Wondrous Item, common

These heavily armored boot covers were originally made for mounted knights, as foot strikes are rare at best against footmen. However, due to the efficacious designs forwarded by Dwarven artificers, articulated Sabatons came into popularity among guardsmen and dungeon delvers, alike. While not at all stealthy nor light, these sabatons make their wearer immune to the damage caused by caltrops, stone spikes, and similar terrain-bound hazards, and the cleats built into their soles make icy or slick terrain as even of footing as paved road. While wearing these sabatons, you gain the following benefits:

  • You reduce all bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that would specifically target your feet by 15, but not below 0.
  • You destroy any caltrops, stone spikes, or ground-based traps that would damage your feet that the damage of does not exceed that of the sabaton.
  • You are immune to the effects of difficult terrain caused by ice, grease, oil, or other such slip hazards so long as you have good footing.
  • You gain advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to climb, resist movement-based effects, or bodily push or pull something while walking.
  • You suffer disadvantage on Dexterity (Acrobatics) and Dexterity (Stealth) checks due to the clunky and noisy design.

Donning or Doffing Sabatons takes approximately one minute for both feet.
