A legendary work of Arcane Craftsman ship. No one knows how many were actually made, though very few have ever been seen.
Part magical, part mechanical. Some say they were brought into existence by a powerful Tinker / Wizard, but that is nothing more than rumor.
The staves are activated by twisting one at the mid-point a quarter turn. This activates an Arcane Crystal, (acting as a capacitor) that both stores and collects magical forces around it.
Inscribed upon the staff is a variation of a gate spell (only allows travel within the same Plane of Existance) that the wielder uses to activate 2 portals.
One is typically opened in close proximity, while the other is opened up to 5km (depending on the charge of the crystal).
The portals can be anywhere from very tiny to about 3 meters in diameter.
It is possible for a Wizard or sorcerer to channel more power into the inscribed spell to increase the size, but not the range.
Once both gates are established, anyone or anything can move freely between the two portals.
A portal can be created in mid air, or have its event horizon attached to an object.
Both portals must be in line of sight during their creation, but once crated the portals can be moved if they are attached to an object.
The portals stay open until the wielder decides to close them, or the staff is destroyed.
While this has never been knowingly tested, it is also rumored that using more than one staff in conjunction allows the range of the portal to be extended.
Proficiency with a Quarterstaff allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
