Weapon (revolver), rare (requires attunement)

This revolver requires no ammunition. Instead, it fires magical projectiles, dealing force damage instead of piercing, by siphoning energy from its environment. It has capacity to hold up to 6 charges at once. If attuned, a spellcaster can use a bonus action to expend a spell slot and recharge the revolver, which regains 1d4 charges per spell level. In a pinch, an attuned wielder can choose to forego expending a spell slot, instead siphoning their life force to charge the weapon: Before making the attack, they suffer 2d8 necrotic damage.

This weapon can be used as a spellcasting focus.

This gun's revolving core is designed to hold magical power sources instead of ammunition, and can be rotated as a free action to select a new core slot. A core's effects are only active if that core is selected. It can hold up to 6 cores. Cores can have any number of effects, and their save DC is always equal to the user's spell save DC. If the user has no spell save DC, targets automatically succeed on saving throws. Some possible cores are as follows:

Ring of Repulsion. On a hit, targets take an additional 1d4 force damage, and must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be pushed 5 ft. in a direction of the attacker's choice.

Radiant Stone. On a hit, all creatures within 5 feet of the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be blinded for one round. If hit with an attack dealing radiant damage, the wielder can use their reaction to expend a charge and reduce the amount of radiant damage they receive by half. As long as the Radiant Stone remains selected, the next attack made with the revolver deals an amount of radiant damage equal to the amount the wielder received.

Stanley's Stone of Stupor. On a hit, the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or have their movement speed halved until the beginning of the wielder's next turn.

New cores for the Arcane Revolver can be produced in any number of ways. For instance, the Radiant Stone could be created from a Potion of Resistance, or the enchanted stone that powers a Flame Tongue could be removed and used as a core. It is up to the DM to decide what must be done to create a suitable core, and how the effects of its source are carried over.

It’s up to you to decide whether a character has proficiency with a firearm. Characters in most D&D worlds wouldn’t have such proficiency. During their downtime, characters can use the training rules in the Player’s Handbook to acquire proficiency, assuming that they have enough ammunition to keep the weapons working while mastering their use.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
