Description:
An Arcanist's Eye is a 2ft diameter pulsating metallic orb with glowing runes carved into its surface. It has several gyroscopic rings spinning around its base. In the base of the sphere on its the face of it's poles are 6 small windows to the interior of the sphere made from polished blended quartz. Looking into the window will reveal a floating swirly ball of liquefied magical essence.
Function:
The Arcanist's Eye was created with the intent to draw raw magical essence from the Ley Lines of the Material Plane. Once placed in it's reciprocal, the gyroscopic rings around the Eye will begin slowly spinning. When the eye is activated, the Eye will begin to emit a small amount of light and the rings will spin at a faster rate. It will float into the air to a height of 30ft, and will gathering magical essence. It draws the magical essence from the land around you, and materializes it to provide a raw power source that can be drawn out from the reciprocal assuming the proper inlays and runes are inscribed into the groundwork around it. The Eye is typically placed within cities to provide power for things such as forges that specialize in the creation of magical items, or any infrastructure that requires magical power. (i.e. Everburning Torches or Vault Doors/Gates that are too large to open without magical means)
Any spells cast within a 50ft radius of the sphere whilst it is activated, the spell will cast but with no effect and the magical essence will be drawn into the Arcanist's Eye and will provide it a small charge to the Eye.
Arcanist's Eye Statistics:
Usage in Reciprocal:
The Arcanist's Eye has 10,000 possible charge, however it is possible to create this by creating larger versions of the Eye. When an Arcanist's Eye is created, it begins with 0 charge.
To activate the Eye it requires a charge of at least 1,000. The Eye will begin gathering charge once it is placed in the reciprocal at a rate of 1,000 charge per day.
Spell's cast within a 50ft radius of the sphere provide a magical charge based on the level of the spell cast, beginning at 10 charge for cantrips, 500 charge for 1st level, and increasing by 250 charge for each level greater.
The Eye has an innate magic loss daily, which varies depending on what continually working installments (i.e. Everburning street lamps, protective barrier, ect) are connected to the Eye's Channeling Network. It also uses a certain amount of charge based on processes that are not continually working. (i.e. opening large city gates, magical lifts, ect) These aspects of the Eye are at the DM's discretion.
Personal Usage:
If the orb is deactivated, it keeps it's current magical charge and stores it. If someone takes the time to attune to the Eye, the have the ability to expend its magical charge for additional spell usage, however this is a very taxing process on the individual. The individual places their hand on the sphere whilst casting a spell, allowing the raw magical energy to course through their body for a moment.
When using the Eye, the caster must roll a d20, on a natural 1 the spell fails and the caster takes 2d10 force damage and is knocked prone. On any other number, the spell succeeds and expends a charge equal too 1000 multiplied by the spell's level, but does not expend a spell slot. When used in a successful casting, the caster takes 1d12 force damage. The Eye can be used to cast any spell known to the caster, regardless if it is prepared or not.
The Reciprocal, Infrastructure & Expansion:
The Reciprocal is a large carved stone foundation that houses the Eye when it is activated. It is a pyramid like structure with a small platform at the top, which has a carved inlay that fits the shape of the Arcanist's Eye. The Eye cannot be activated unless placed into a Reciprocal.
Along the foundation, many magical runes are carved into the the stone, along with small channels covered with polished blended quartz. These channels are the basis of the Channeling Network. The Channeling Network distributes power through these channels from the Eye to the areas that require it, as noted above. When the Eye is activated, the energy drawn from it is drawn in a beam to the base of the Reciprocal and then through the Channeling Network to it's final destination, to be expended on it's various purposes.
The Eye's rate of daily charge can be increased by adding Magical Siphons to the Channeling Network. These siphons are similar to Lightning Rods in form, but made with the same material as the Arcanist's Eye. Each Magical Siphon put into place and added to the Channeling Network increase the daily charge rate of the Eye by 200 per day. The spell siphoning effect of the Eye also applies to the Magical Siphon in a 30ft radius.
