Weapon (longsword), artifact (requires attunement by a creature the sword deems worthy)

The Archangel's Blade appears to be an intricate longsword hilt. Fashioned from celestial metals, it is a shining silver and gives off a faint glow and hum. It is said to have once been wielded by the greatest solar -- whose name is lost to time -- before they disappeared. While grasping the hilt, you can use a bonus action to make a blade of pure radiance spring from the hilt, or cause the blade to disappear. The weapon chooses who can attune to it and who can’t. It desires a wielder who shows kindness, bravery and loyalty. The Archangel's Blade has all the properties of a sun blade.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage. When you hit an undead with it, that target takes an extra 1d8 radiant damage. While the blade exists, this magic longsword has the finesse property.

Sentience. The Archangel's Blade is a sentient, neutral good item with an Intelligence of 10, a Wisdom of 18, and a Charisma of 20. It has hearing and normal vision out to a range of 30 feet. The sword can speak, read, and understand Common and Celestial, and it can communicate with its wielder telepathically. When it has no wielder, it can telepathically communicate with any creature it shares a language with within one mile of itself in the hopes of finding a worthy wielder. Its voice is kind and feminine. It knows every language you know while you’re attuned to it.

Personality. The Archangel's Blade is possessed of a spirit named Dawn. She is kind and compassionate to those in need, but fierce and unyielding to her enemies. Many long years lost and kept in darkness have made Dawn frightened of both the dark and losing her wielder. She prefers that her blade always be present and shedding light in areas of darkness, and she strongly resists being parted from her wielder for any length of time.

Attunement. If she finds you worthy, Dawn allows you to attune to the Archangel's Blade immediately, without having to take a short rest. The first time you attune to the sword, you are transformed into a heavenly, idealized version of yourself, blessed with otherworldly beauty and a touch of heaven in your heart. Neither magic nor divine intervention can reverse this transformation. You permanently gain the following traits:

  • Angelic Language. You can speak, read, and write Celestial.
  • Celestial Resistance. You are resistant to necrotic and radiant damage.
  • Celestial Physiology. You cease aging and are immune to effects that would cause you to age. You are immune to disease. You no longer need to eat or breathe.
  • Divine Presence. Your Charisma score becomes 20, unless it is already 20 or higher.
  • Feathered Wings. You sprout a beautiful pair of feathered wings that grant you a flying speed of 90 feet and the ability to hover. If you already have a different kind of wings, these new wings replace the old ones, which fall off.
  • Truesight. Your eyes become luminous pools of silver. You can see in normal and magical darkness, see invisible creatures and objects, automatically detect visual illusions and succeed on saving throws against them, perceive the original form of a shapechanger or a creature that is transformed by magic, and see into the Ethereal Plane, all within a range of 60 feet.
  • Celestial Concealment. You can use an action to magically conceal all the changes to your appearance that you have gained. While concealing your appearance you cannot access your flight speed, unless you had one before attuning the the Archangel's Blade. You can use a bonus action to end this concealment.

Holy Light. The sword's luminous blade emits bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight. Fiends and undead find the sword’s light disconcerting and painful, even if they can’t see it, and have disadvantage on attack rolls made within the weapon’s radius of bright light. While the blade persists, you can use a bonus action to intensify the sword’s light, causing it to shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet, reduce the sword’s light to a minimum of 5 feet each or return its glow to its normal intensity.

Restorative Properties. While holding the weapon, you can use an action to touch a creature with the blade and cast greater restoration on that creature without requiring material components. Once used, this ability can’t be used again until the next dawn.

Searing Radiance. The sword deals an extra 14 (3d8) radiant damage to any creature it hits, or 16 (3d10) radiant damage if you’re wielding the weapon with two hands. An evil creature that takes this radiant damage must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be blinded until the end of its next turn.

Truth Seer. While holding the sword, you gain advantage on all Wisdom (Insight) checks.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
