A shillelagh is a crude walking stick, the rough length and shape of a cane. The shillelagh is an iconic implement and weapon of the Feywild, features heavily in fey folklore, and is the inspiration behind the druid spell of the same name. Typically cut from a single, stout, knotty blackthorn stick — usually with a heavy knob or a section of the branch on one end to serve as a handle — a shillelagh is imbued with nature's power, and packs a punch well above its weight class.
Each shillelagh is custom made, and only the creature for whom it was carved can attune to it. Any druid or fey proficient with woodcarver's tools can make a shillelagh for itself or another creature with 4 weeks of work (or half that time if the carver knows the shillelagh cantrip) from a length of hardwood. The piece of wood must have been selected by the creature for whom the shillelagh is being made, and must be measured and cut to a suitable length for that creature.
In the hands of any other creature, a shillelagh is just a stick, functioning as a normal club. In the hands of its intended wielder, the shillelagh is a magic weapon.
You can use your spellcasting ability (if you have one) instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks you make with your shillelagh, and the weapon's damage die is a d8 instead of a club's normal damage. You can also use your shillelagh as a spellcasting focus for your spells.
If a shillelagh weapon is subjected to the shillelagh cantrip, the weapon gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it and its damage die increases to a d12 until the spell ends.
Most shillelaghs have a wrist strap, granting the wielder advantage on ability checks and saving throws to avoid being disarmed of the weapon even if they can't attune to the weapon.
Proficiency with a Club allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Slow. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to it, you can reduce its Speed by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. If the creature is hit more than once by weapons that have this property, the Speed reduction doesn’t exceed 10 feet.
Notes: Replace Damage Type: Bludgeoning, specific creature, Light, Slow
