One of a set of four weapons of Ascalon named after their creator. Legend has it that each of the four weapons was scattered in one of the cardinal directions after their creation. Each weapon taking the title of direction they were sent. Ascalon North (Warhammer), Ascalon East (Shortbow), Ascalon West (Shortsword), Ascalon South (Mace). Each weapon imbued with the powers of Ascalon who was said to have taken on and banished the dragon Tiamat from Faerun a millenia ago. Legend says that if you gather the set, you will be bestowed with the powers of Ascalon.
When you fire an arrow and speak its command phrase "I call upon the lightning of Ascalon!", the arrow transforms into a bolt of lightning, forming a line 5 feet wide that extends out from you to a target within 320 feet. Each creature in the line excluding you and the target must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d6 lightning damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The lightning bolt turns back into an arrow when it reaches the target. Make a ranged weapon attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes damage from the shortbow plus 4d6 lightning damage.
The shortbow's property can only be used 5 times until a long rest. In the meantime, the shortbow can still be used as a +1 magic weapon.
Proficiency with a Shortbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
