Weapon (longsword), unknown rarity (requires attunement by a allowing the spirit of the sword to enter their mind.)

The obsidian blade, a magic, sentient longsword, grants a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with it and crits on natural rolls of 19 or 20.

If the sword isn’t bathed in blood after a minute of being drawn, its wielder must choose to give in to the compulsion of violence or resist and make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw. On a successful save, the wielder take [roll]3d6[/roll] psychic damage. On a failed save, the wielder is dominated by the sword, as if by the dominate monster spell, and the sword demands that it be bathed in blood. The spell effect ends when the sword’s demand is met or the sword is separated from the wielder, causing the same psychic damage roll.

  • Bathed in Blood. If the creatures being fought are of flesh and blood, roll a D20 at the end of the minute to determine if the thirst of the blade is quenched. The DM will decide the difficulty to pass (5, 10, 15, 20), based on the actions of the user during the minute of combat.

Spirit of the Sword. The violence and resentment bound in the blade compels its user. Add a [roll]1d10[/roll] to your initiative at the start of every combat round. In addition, attacks with this sword deal an extra [roll]1d10[/roll] slashing damage to undead.

Unwilling Power. The more control the blade had over the user, the more of its power it can utilise through the user. The blade will, on occasion, compel the user to use some of its powers, consuming an action and using one of the following spells:

  • Call Lightning
  • Divine Word (Locked)
  • Finger of Death (Locked)

Once a spell is cast, it can't be cast again until the next dawn.

History. When Asmodeus grew in power, he appointed an evil and ruthless lieutenant from Interra to act as his bodyguard and right hand. This despicable man served as advisor, warlord, and assassin. His successes earned him Asmodeus' admiration and a reward - an unusual obsidian blade with as dark a pedigree as the one who would wield it and a strange gem embedded in its centre.

For a short time, the lieutenant faithfully served Asmodeus along with his two brothers, but as his accomplishments grew, so did his hubris. The sword urged him to supplant Asmodeus and rule in his stead. Legend says before his demise, Asmodeus wrought his rebellious lieutenant’s doom, stripping him of most of his powers and trapping him with his followers to his fallen keep as wraiths and undead. The kingdom fallen, the people killed in the desert - bodies scattered across the sands, their master doomed to live deathless in his fallen keep.

The world was made brighter, and history turned to myth.
