This strange pocketwatch features an embossed humanoid skull on its cover, and two words in a long lost language engraved on its back. It seems at first to be broken, as it does not make any noise, and the cover remains firmly shut against all attempts to pry it open.
If you hold the pocketwatch near the mortal remains of a deceased creature (not including undead), the device begins to tick audibly, and you find that it can now be opened without issue. You may use an action to flip open the cover, after which your senses leave you as you begin to experience the moments immediately preceding the target creature's death from a third person perspective, as though through the Scrying spell. At the moment of the target's demise, the vision ends and your senses return to you.
This artifact draws on your life force to power its abilities. Upon using it, make a Constitution saving throw (DC 16). On a fail, take one level of exhaustion. The DC increases by 2 each time the pocketwatch is used, and decreases by 1d2 each night at midnight (to a minimum of 16).
Notes: Exhaustion, Scrying, Utility, Exploration, divination
