Weapon (crossbow, hand), very rare (requires attunement)

A sleek crossbow made from a dark, slate-steel metal with Aeorian runes covering the bow. The bow is angled rather than curved, with a disc at each end. There is no string or ammunition, but when activated a crackle of orange energy connects the two ends of the bow. The trigger is warm to the touch, and when preparing to fire the runes along the side glow orange. Firing the crossbow releases a bolt or orange energy in place of traditional ammunition, and does force damage in lieu of piercing.

The crossbow has a +2 to attack and damage rolls, and on a missed attack the wielder can expend their reaction to attack again. The crossbow ignores the loading property, but if a 1 is rolled on the attack, the crossbow suffers a feedback malfunction and deals the damage of a hit to the wielder.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
