Weapon (crossbow, hand), uncommon

This complex hand crossbow has a long, 6-chambered, revolving mechanism in the middle, containing thin, fletched, crossbow arrows, rather than the heavier bolts of less advanced crossbows. Each chamber has a slit at the top, and is approximately 7 inches long.

The draw string is pulled by a hand pull, which moves a hinged tab to a position behind the readied arrow chamber, where it locks in place. An angled grip, similar to that of a flintlock pistol, feature a curved trigger with a finger guard at the joining of handle and body of the weapon. When pulled, the trigger releases the hinged tab, and the bow string is released, firing the arrow.

The arms and string of the revolving crossbow cable-backed, and double-bowed, maximizing mechanical advantage without increasing size or strength needed to draw the bow mechanism.

Finally, the arrow is fired out of a roughly 4 inch rifled barrel. The entire weapon is about 1 foot long, adjusting for style and preference, not including the angled handle, with arms roughly comparable to a standard hand crossbow in total length.

This weapon loses the loading property, and instead gains the Reload (6) property. After 6 attacks have been made with the weapon, all 6 chambers can be reloaded as a Bonus Action or in place of an Attack when taking the Attack Action. If magical or alchemical arrows are loaded, the wielder can rotate the chambers to ready the arrow of their choice as part of drawing, reloading, or attacking with the weapon.

More advanced models have improved mechanical advantage on the arms, generating greater accuracy, force, and range, as well as other optional upgrades, increasing the cost and rarity of the weapon.

Proficiency with a hand crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
