History: Veldrin, the feared Drow warrior, rode fearlessly into battle atop his beloved drider mount, Zex'id. Inseparable, they were a formidable force. However, tragedy hit when Zex'id fell in a fateful confrontation. Consumed by grief and unwilling to face the battlefield without his trusted companion, Veldrin sought solace in the artificer's workshop of the enigmatic master, Azariah. Azariah, utilizing the remnants of Zex'id, crafted the Arachnid's Lament—a longbow that blended beauty and darkness.
Appearance: The Arachnid's Lament is a somber masterpiece. Its sleek ebony frame, fashioned from the sturdy chitin of Zex'id's exoskeleton, gleams with a haunting luster. Sinuous limbs, crafted from the drider's carapace, gracefully extend, bearing marks of battles fought and victories won. Strands of shimmering spider silk, delicately woven through the bowstring, resonate with the whispered secrets of the spider's spinning dance, capable of imparting ethereal enchantments to an arrow's flight.
Properties: The longbow has 4 charges and regains 1d6 + 2 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the longbow is destroyed in an otherwise harmless burst of arcane energy.
Spider's Precision . Once per turn, when you make a ranged attack roll with this longbow, you can choose to expend 1 charge to gain advantage on the attack roll. However, if the attack misses, your next ranged attack roll has disadvantage until the start of your next turn. Can be used alone, or in conjunction with Spider's Entanglement for 2 charges.
Spider's Entanglement. Once per turn, when you make a ranged attack roll with this longbow, you can choose to expend 1 charge to fire an arrow that explodes upon impact, releasing a sticky web. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw on a hit (a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw on a miss) or it becomes restrained for 1 minute. Any creature can use its action to make a DC 13 Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within its reach from the webbing. Can be used alone, or in conjunction with Spider's Precision for 2 charges.
Spider's Agility. While attuned to the Arachnid's Sting, you gain a +2 bonus to initiative.
Spider's Hunger. While Arachnid's Lament is not sentient, the weapon retains the hunger of the beast from which it was created. The owner of this weapon can enhance their bond with the item by 'feeding' it relevant material and accomplishments. After the bond has gained sufficient strength, Arachnid's Lament evolves into Arachnid's Retribution. There are rumors of the possibility of even further evolutions, but the details are unknown. Attunement to a new owner destroys this built-up bond and resets the weapon to the base Arachnid's Lament level.
- Requirements, Arachnid's Retribution:
- Venoms Drop: Absorb 20 vials of potent poison or other DC 13 or higher poison.
- Victims Life: Inflict damage on 100 CR worth of enemies.
- Spiders Silk: Absorb the casting of 20 Web spells.
- Web's Adornment: 4000GP worth of diamond dust.
- Night's Embrace: Absorb the casting of 10 Darkness spells.
- Updated Capabilities, Arachnid's Retribution:
- Rarity: Very Rare
- Charges: 7
- Spider's Precision: Misses no longer impose disadvantage and all attacks with the bow are at a +1 to hit and damage.
- Spider's Entanglement: Save DC 16 on hit, DC 13 on miss. Restrained creatures suffer 1d4 poison damage at the start of their turn.
- Spider's Agility: +3 to Initiative and +3 to passive perception against being surprised.
