The soul bound blade of Asakura the Ronin, this nodachi is distinct from others blades as it contains the soul of his deceased wife Akari. Following her untimely death, Akari's will remained; binding her spirit to her beloved husband's sword, Akari and Asakura could remain together in their different bodies. Akari-katana is a magical sentient weapon, guiding Asakura to finding new purpose with a silvery blade. Akari-katana bears an ornate hilt emblazoned with sakura petals, and a black sheath designed inlayed with a vine-like design and silver fixtures matching the hilt and blade.

WIthering: When taking an attack action, you may make a 30ft ranged attack with this weapon dealing 4d6 necrotic damage. This ability has 3 charges, regaining use at dawn.

Phantom: When you take the dodge or dash action you may activate this ability to draw on Akari-katana's spirit to fill you with otherworldly resilience. Until your next turn, all saving throws are made with advantage. This ability regains use at dawn.

Shroud: When you drop to 0 hit points, Akari-katana will send a spirit visage to deflect the blow entirely, shrouding the wielder in ghostly haze until the next turn. Any creature that hits the wielder takes the damage instead. This ability regains use at dawn.

 

Sentience: Akari-katana is Neutral Good two handed Greatsword. Intelligence of 14(+2), Wisdom 16 (+3) Charisma 19(+4). She can understand common and quori but can only communicate telepathically with her owner and has hearing and darkvision up to 60ft. She likes adventurers and those focused on justice.

Personality:  Akari-katana is patient and wise, yet precise and vigilant. Due to Asakura's previous drinking habit, Akari-katana detests alcohol and requires that she stay by Asakura's side. If the wielder acts unjustly she becomes dull and will not activate her abilities until the wielder makes amends; if separated, she will posses the next creature that comes in contact with her and return to Asakura.

 

Proficiency with a Greatsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Graze. If your attack roll with this weapon misses a creature, you can deal damage to that creature equal to the ability modifier you used to make the attack roll. This damage is the same type dealt by the weapon, and the damage can be increased only by increasing the ability modifier.
