Weapon (crossbow, hand), uncommon (requires attunement)

Twice per day, this crossbow can infuse standard crossbow bolts with a magical trap, causing them to burst into ethereal netting upon contact with a creature or surface.

If the bolt hits a creature, the net attempts to ensnare them, and the target must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be restrained for one minute. The ensnared creature can use its action to attempt to break free of the net, requiring a DC 13 Strength check. The net can also be broken by dealing 10 slashing damage to it from a magical weapon. The net fades away after the target breaks free, causing no additional effects.

If the bolt hits a surface, such as a floor, wall, or ceiling, the net expands to cover a circle with a radius of 10 feet, which becomes difficult terrain and causes non-flying creatures within its range to have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws. The net will conform to the terrain, wrapping around corners or up walls as needed. Hitting an object that is being worn or carried causes the net to drop to the ground, using the point directly below the place of contact as the center of the effect.

Standard bolts fired from this crossbow do not deal magical damage, but trapped bolts deal magical piercing damage on a successful hit, even if the target succeeds on the saving throw against the net. The effects of this crossbow do not have any effect on creatures which have no physical form, or are huge or larger.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
