Weapon (shortsword), very rare

You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

When the weapon is drawn fully from its sheath, the item simultaneously invokes a modified Darkness spell and a modified Silence spell. Both occupy a sphere  with a 30-foot diameter from the blade, that cannot be dispelled or ended without breaking or sheathing the weapon. The wielder of the sword is immune to its effects, and does not even notice any change -- they can hear all noises and see as if there was no darkness -- the sword even serving as a source of light they alone can see.

The area of effect of the quieting darkness is blocked by solid walls or other surfaces that would normally block light. If there exists a human-sized hole or larger wholly within the radius of the spell, it will flow into the normal spherical area of effect.  Thus, before a bearer were to come through a doorway, the spherical effect would fill the doorward part of the room, but used in a narrow corridor without windows or doors it would not appear in the rooms adjacent to that corridor.

Onlookers will see a liquid-looking tide of darkness flowing out from the blade until it obscures the entire area of effect in what looks like a roiling dark mist.

Proficiency with a Shortsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
