Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a Requires attunement; touch the stone with skin contact, from which point any spell that the character casts from that point will use up power until it is inactive/used up (relative to the dead-zone the character is within).)

A small-medium item that contains a limited amount of magical energy that a spellcaster can use in a magic dead-zone. They are made from Rutilated Osicularium quartz/volcanic glass and are worn by the character in any manner that they choose.

To activate it, the character must be attuned. The Arcanum can be recharged by simply spending time in a non-dead-zone area for 72 hours untouched. If the Arcanum is skin-touched in a non-dead-zone area, it will immediately discharge and become inactive, and the character must recharge it to then reuse it again. After the Arcanum is touched by a character in a dead-zone area, it is linked to that character until it is spent. A character can only have on their person 1 Arcanum at a time, inactive or active, due to the magic-charges presence repelling each other. If 2 Arcanum were forced/held together accidentally or intentionally, the Arcanum becomes supercritical and produce a force wave outwards, discharging both Arcanum's in the process. Each character within a 10ft radius loses 1 level of exhaustion and must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw, where on a failed save they take an extra 4 HP force damage, or 2 HP on a successful save.

Magic in the realm of Cilanethor is everywhere, however there are rare dead-zones (or sgire-marbh) of either man-made or natural decent. Complete dead-zones are split into 4 categories; Beag, Ordag, Trom, and Gin. In these dead-zones, magic above a certain level cannot be used unless the character has an Arcanum. Partial dead-zones do not require an Arcanum however they still limit a magic-users power. Cantrips and spell-slots are limited depending on the level of dead-zone. Without an active Arcanum in complete dead-zones, spell slot use is lowered by 2 respectively as per the dead-zone level. The following effects are with an active Arcanum:

  • Partial; 8 spell-slots, bellow leve; 5, and 10 cantrip uses.
  • Beag; 3 spell-slots only, bellow level 3, and 5 cantrip uses
  • Ordag; 2 spell slots only, bellow level 3, and 4 cantrip uses
  • Trom; 1 spell slot only, bellow level 3, and 3 cantrip uses
  • Gin; 0 spell slots, and 3 cantrip uses (no M components)

Notes: Requires attunement; touch the stone with skin contact, from which point any spell that the character casts from that point will use up power until it is inactive/used up (relative to the dead-zone the character is within).
