A heavily modified and custom fabricated crossbow with a grappling hook. The design is specifically fabricated to integrate into a Warforged. When fully integrated, the device can be retracted completely, hiding it from sight. Every part of the device has been cast or forged from steel, with mechanics allowing the device to fold in on itself. The cable attached to the grappling hook is made of reinforced rope threaded between chain links. The maximum firing distance is 120 feet. For any target more than 60 feet away, a -1 modifier to hit is per 10 feet.
The weapon has two firing modes: piercing and grappling. When fully integrated, firing the weapon takes a Bonus Action and retracting the cables uses a Reaction (up to 30ft per turn. Or using a bonus action, up to 60ft).
Piercing Mode:
On hit: The creature takes 1d6+3 piercing damage. The creature is tethered, allowing the user to pull the target. On creatures larger than the user, a competing strength check determines the success of pulling the target. The creature can still move and take actions freely within the tethered range. The target is tethered either until the user releases the hook, or succeeds on a constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the target takes 1d4 piercing damage.
Grappling Mode:
On hit: The creature is now grappled. They take no damage, but must succeed a strength saving throw at disadvantage to break free, or until released by the user.
Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
