Arcane Recognition: The crystals vibrate and emit a soft glow when in proximity to magical objects, providing guidance to the user. The intensity of the glow increases with the strength of the magical aura.
Explosive Aura: If the two Arcane Divining Crystals touch each other, they trigger a volatile reaction. Both crystals instantly shatter, releasing a powerful arcane explosion. All creatures within a 20-foot radius centered on the crystals must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 15) or take 6d10 force damage, or half as much on a successful save.
The Arcane Divining Crystals are a pair of mystical gemstones that serve as tools for detecting magical auras. When held individually, they enable the user to sense the presence of magic within objects. However, when brought too close to each other, their powerful energies react explosively, creating a devastating detonation. The Arcane Divining Crystals embody the delicate balance between the delicate art of divination and the destructive potential of arcane forces.

Posted Apr 12, 2026The Explosive Aura effect is a bit much. This not only destroys 2 magical items, but it also deals enough damage to potentially kill people in a 20 foot radius.
If I was an Artificer and I knew that this was a possibility, I would put some kind of wire cage around the crystals so that they could never touch one another. Dip them in wax, wrap them with rope or seal them in a leather sheath, something to keep them from being dangerous. Leaving these as naked crystals is likely to be a huge mistake unless you only make one of them.
I do like their Arcane Recognition power. That's good.
