Weapon (crossbow, heavy), rare

This rare heavy crossbow is a weapon left over from an ancient war.  This old relic must be fixed up before using, in danger of immediate breakage.

  • One must spend 8 hours fixing and polishing the weapon making a dc 14 tool check with either woodcarvers, carpenters,  or blacksmithing tools.  Failing more than half of your checks will result in the destruction of the weapon.
    • Alternatively you can hire an artisan to work on the weapon for a total of 24 hours for 100 gold.
  • This heavy crossbow can have up to three nodes determined by a d20 roll
    • 1-10: One node
    • 15-18: Two node
    • 19-20: Three Nodes

Node Attachments

  • Scope Attachment: By attaching this scope to your crossbow you gain a +1 to ranged attack rolls as well as gaining a +20 feet to your range.
  • Bolt Clip Attachment:  This attachment slots into the bottom of the crossbow, allowing you to ignore the loading feature until the shots run out.  A clip can hold four shots, allowing you to fire five shots without reloading if you have already loaded a fifth bolt before inserting the clip.  Once all the shots have been fired you must spend a full action reloading the clip.  You are unable to move more than 5ft in whilst doing this.
  •  Shield Attachment:  A shield sliced in half and attached to either sides of the front of the crossbow.  This adds a +2 to your ac when wielding it.  You can choose instead to modify a tower shield and attach it.  Doing so requires a strength of 16.  When wielding and aiming down sights, you are under the effect of half cover. (When storing this weapon, the shield pieces must be detached)

Proficiency with a Heavy Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
