Potion, rare
This small, pink, luminescent crystal resembles granulated pink sugar. When consumed or inhaled, it grants the user a temporary surge of energy, but comes with both advantages and consequences.
Effects: When a character ingests or inhales the Aetherflare Crystal, they grow one size category larger for 1 hour. While under the influence of Aetherflare, the character gains the following benefits and drawbacks:
Benefits:
- Strength Score Increase: The character gains a +4 bonus to their Strength score for the duration of the Aetherflare's effects.
- Elemental Empowerment: The character gains a bonus of +2 to spell attack rolls and damage rolls when using spells that deal elemental damage (fire, air, etc.).
- Metabolic Overdrive: The character has Advantage on all CON saves against other sources of poison. The character's heart rate and body temperature dramatically rise while under the drug effect.
Drawbacks:
- Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma Penalty: The character suffers a -2 penalty to their Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma scores for the duration of the Aetherflare's effects.
- Impaired Judgment: The character has Disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws and Wisdom-based skill checks during this time.
- Agitation: The character acts aggressively and cannot sit still or act patiently while under the effect of this drug. If compelled to remain calm or still, the effects of the drug will become increasingly uncomfortable. The character cannot make active Stealth checks.
Consequences:
- Blood Toxicity: Upon taking the drug, the character's blood, skin, and eye pigment all turn bright pink.
- Hallucinations: While under the influence, when people move, the character perceives streaks of light trailing from behind them. Objects and materials do not have this effect.
- Addiction: Upon using Aetherflare, the character must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they become addicted to the drug. Addiction results in a growing desire to use Aetherflare, potentially leading to compulsive behavior and seeking it out at any cost.
- Metabolic shock: After the drug's duration, the character must consume a full day's portion of food & water immediately or suffer 1 point of exhaustion from starvation.
Duration: 1 hour on first use. Unknown after repeated use.
Special Notes:
- A character can only safely benefit from the effects of Aetherflare once per long rest to prevent overuse and minimize the risk of addiction. Subsequent attempted uses per day will risk death or critical incapacitation.
- The character cannot benefit from the effects of potions or other drugs while under the influence of Aetherflare (unless explicitly stated otherwise by the DM).
- The character's size and ability score changes should be appropriately reflected in their stats and mechanics during the duration of Aetherflare.
