Weapon (longsword), legendary (requires attunement by a person that picks it up for the first time)

Rakor is a standard Longsword (1d8 damage. Versatile, 1d10 damage) with a leather-wrapped hilt. Quite unremarkable in appearance. This is misleading.

Rakor is a sword of devious might, but it is also Cursed. A mixed blessing, to be sure.

Rakor automatically Attunes itself to the first person to pick it up or the first person that draws it from its sheath.

Once Rakor has bonded to someone, that person cannot truly die until killed by Rakor itself.

Rakor confers the following beneficial properties while wielded:

  • The wielder has advantage on Initiative rolls for combat with Rakor
  • Rakor counts as a +3 Magical weapon for Attack and Damage rolls
  • The wielder has Advantage on Intimidation rolls against the target
  • When Rakor attacks its target and hits, maximize your weapon damage dice against the target
  • A Critical Hit is achieved with Rakor when rolling a 18, 19, or 20 on the Attack roll
  • For the purposes of striking its target, Rakor operates as if under the effects of the True Seeing spell

In addition to its powerful benefits, Rakor also confers the following disadvantages:

  • Once Rakor is drawn, it cannot be sheathed again until it has slain its target
  • Once Rakor is drawn, it cannot be physically separated from the wielder until it has slain its target
  • Rakor will only attack a single target at one time. It cannot be wielded against another target until the first target is slain
  • If Rakor is drawn while no target is within melee range, the first living creature with Intelligence of 5 or more, and of Small size or larger to come within Melee range will automatically become the target
  • Rakor will not target Undead or Constructs and cannot damage them in any way
  • Rakor’s wielder has Disadvantage on Attack and Damage rolls while using any other weapon or any offensive spell with an Attack roll
  • Once the target is slain, Rakor loses all its magical advantages and functions as a non-magical weapon. It must be sheathed and redrawn before its abilities can be used again
  • If the target is removed from Melee range of the wielder (via Teleport or other means), Rakor loses its abilities (as above) and counts this as 1 Kill (see below). Rakor can then target another being, once it is sheathed and redrawn
  • While Rakor is drawn, the wielder cannot be healed in any way. Only when Rakor is sheathed can the wielder receive the benefits of healing, either magical or non-magical
  • If the wielder is reduced to 0 Hit Points, Rakor will cast Cure Wounds (7th-level version) on the wielder as a Reaction. This counts as 2 Kills. If the wielder is killed, Rakor will cast Revivify on the wielder as a Reaction. This counts as 5 Kills

A standard Remove Curse will not allow Rakor to be removed from the wielder. The spell must be cast by a Cleric of 13 level or higher to have any chance at success. And there is a 40% chance that the wielder is killed during the process.

A carefully worded Wish spell will also break the bond between Rakor and its wielder.

Kills

Each time Rakor slays a target, this counts as 1 Kill. Rakor currently has 60 Kills remaining. Once Rakor reaches 60 Kills, it will turn on its wielder, slaying them without the possibility of resurrection, as Rakor consumes their soul. Rakor will then bond itself to a new wielder, but with only 59 Kills remaining. Once that wielder reaches 59 Kills, Rakor will turn on them, slaying them as well. This process will continue until Rakor has only 1 Kill remaining. Once that wielder draws Rakor, it will slay them immediately, then become a non-magical weapon forevermore.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
