Almost all history of the Death Lord has been destroyed, but what little exists gives insight as to his character. The Death Lord was a paladin who delved deep into the arts of necromancy, to the point he commanded legions of undead. He attempted to carve a kingdom of his own, however the surrounding kingdoms allied to exterminate him and his minions. The set of plate armor was made from blackened steel, and magically afflicted to consider uncomfortable for the weak willed to look upon. Ghostly green cloth drapes from the shoulder pads and a monastic scapula between the legs to match. The armor was described to be uncomfortably heavy in comparison to regular armor, but to those strong enough it weighed just enough to not forget they were wearing it. On each gauntlet there was a gem, the right constantly glowing green, while the left remained dormant.
This armor is a set of +2 plate armor. If the wearer has less than 18 Strength, the armor weighs twice as much as regular plate. However, if the wearer has 18 Strength or more then the armor weighs 1 pound, just enough to make the wearer remember they were wearing the armor. When attuned the wearer can activate the left gem once per week to absorb a single attack's damage. The gem will then glow, and on the attuned's next successful hit the gem's absorbed damage will be added to the regular damage. The wearer can activate the right gem once per week to cast Banishment with a DC of 18. If successful the banished shall remain banished until the wearer reactivates the gem to release them.
If the attuned character is also attuned to the Helm of the Death Lord, both gems can be used once per day, and the armor can be activated to summon an Avatar of Death to serve the wearer. This can only be used once per week, and cannot be used again if the summoned Avatar of Death is still in existence.
Plate consists of shaped, interlocking metal plates to cover the entire body. A suit of plate includes gauntlets, heavy leather boots, a visored helmet, and thick layers of padding underneath the armor. Buckles and straps distribute the weight over the body.
