An aegisal is a tiny non-magical bolt-like arrow. Through the use of advanced archery techniques and a special guide piece affixed to the bowstring arm, the arrow can be fired from a longbow in spite of its short size. This smaller projectile allows for increased range, penetration, and precision; however, the technique for using the guide properly can make firing an aegisal both difficult and dangerous.
As a bonus action, you may nock an aegisal on to a longbow using the bowstring arm guide. The next attack made with that longbow has the following properties:
- You have advantage on attacks at short range, and no disadvantage on attacks at long range
- Your attack is a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
On a miss, you must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity Saving Throw or take 1d8 piercing damage.
Regardless of whether or not the attack hits, the aegisal arrow cannot be recovered or reused.
