Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement)

This amulet is made of serpent scales, with a strange rune in the center that glows with a soft green light.

Upon being worn, this amulet is immediately attuned. If the wearer is already attuned to three magic items, one is forcefully unattuned. The amulet confers the following benefits while attuned:

  • You gain resistance to poison damage.
  • You gain +1 to Charisma
  • You can cast Animal Friendship at will without using material components. When cast using this ability, you may only target snakes.

Cursed

This amulet was once worn by an ancient Naga Queen who turned people into her serpentine followers. Now infused with her essence, it transforms whoever wears it to become like the Naga Queen, granting them the ability to create followers of their own.

This amulet feels strange and tight when you put it on, and 10 minutes after attunement, it sinks into the skin, only leaving the symbol on the chest, and extends the Naga Queen's Curse to you.

Stage 1 (2 weeks):

  • Once the amulet has sunk into the skin, your body reshapes become more attractive and charismatic, granting you +1 to Charisma.
  • You feel a minor aversion to cold areas, and like to sleep while in an area of warmth.

Stage 2 (1d12+1 days):

  • Your body becomes extremely feminine, granting you +1 to Charisma and changing your gender to Female.
  • You begin to grow small patches of scales, especially around your hips and legs. These are almost unnoticeable, and are easily hidden by clothing

Stage 3 (1d10+1 days):

  • The patches of scales spread, now very noticeable and difficult to hide with clothing, covering roughly 1/3 of your body.
  • Your tongue forks and can be used to smell, granting you advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
  • Your canines elongate and sharpen.

Stage 4 (1d8+1 days):

  • The scales spread further, covering roughly 2/3 of your body, granting an additional +1 to AC. You are now unable to hide the scales with clothing.
  • Your legs grow closer together and begin to fuse, lowering your walking speed by 20 feet. Your legs are almost completely covered in scales at this point.
  • Your canine teeth grow into short fangs, granting you a natural weapon that does 2d4+STR piercing damage.

Stage 5 (1d6+1 days):

  • Your legs are now completely fused, and begin to elongate into a tail similar to that of a snake.
  • Your body is now completely covered in scales, and your face begins to elongateinto a snout, while your ears recede into your head. You have a Natural Armor equal to 13+DEX.
  • You are now cold blooded, giving you +1 to Constitution,  vulnerability to cold damage, and disadvantage on saves to resist cold climates.
  • Your teeth besides your fangs fall out or ascend into your skull (DM's choice), and your fangs elongate, now dealing 2d6+STR piercing damage.
  • You begin to produce a powerful venom for your fangs. Upon hitting a creature with your fangs, they must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they take 2d8 poison damage and are now Poisoned for 2d8 rounds. On a success they take half damage and aren't poisoned, and they are immune to your venom for 24 hours. While Poisoned, the creature must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw at the start of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success, and taking 2d4 poison damage on a fail.

Stage 6 (Indefinitely):

  • Your legs have now completely transformed into a serpentine tail, raising your walking speed to 35. You may also attack a creature with your tail as an an action, dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage. On a hit, the creature is now Grappled. You gain advantage on attack rolls with your fangs against a Grappled target. You may constrict a grappled target as a bonus action, dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage.
  • Your head is now like that of a serpent, and you grow a cobra-like hood. You learn the Acid Splash cantrip if you didn't already know it. When you cast the spell, it originates from your mouth instead of your hand.
  • You now produce a new venom that can extend the Naga Queen's Curse to another individual. When you hit a Humanoid creature with your fangs, you can choose to inject your cursed venom into the creature. The creature must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the symbol of the amulet appears on the creature's chest, and they begin the curse at stage 1 with the following alterations: the time between stages is halved rounding down, they are considered Charmed by you and will obey your commands at Stage 5, they do not become a Large creature at stage 6, and they do not gain this ability at Stage 6. Once you use this ability, you cannot use it until you complete three long rests.
  • You grow and bulk up. You gain +2 to Strength, +1 to Constitution, and your size is now Large.
  • Your creature type is now Monstrosity.
  • You gain all of the benefits of the amulet, and it unattunes to you. It is now considered a biological part of you and cannot be removed.

Additional features such as gaining flaws, changing alignment and different benefits may be added at the DM's discretion.

Curing the Curse:

While the wearer is cursed, a Lesser Restoration spell will halt the curses progression for 1d4 days, upon which the curse continues. A Remove Curse spell unattunes the wearer from the amulet for 1 hour, allowing it to be removed, halting the curse's progression until the amulet is reattuned. Keep in mind that the amulet will reattune if not removed, continuing the curse's progress. A Greater Restoration spell decreases the curse's level by 1d4+1. If this would reduce the curse level to 0, the amulet unattunes for 1 hour and can be removed. None of these spells work upon reaching Stage 6; at that point only the blessing of th3 Naga Queen's spirit or a Wish spell can undo the curse. If the amulets wearer is cured of the curse, all creatures they cursed are no longer charmed by them and have their curse level reduced by 1d4-1 per long rest.
