Weapon (longsword), legendary (requires attunement by a person brave enough to wield it)

For all intents and purposes, Aftertaste is not actually a sword. Instead, it is a sentient being — a mimic to be precise — that has decided the quickest way to a good meal is in the hands of a brave adventurer. Rather than sitting and waiting in a dark cave for food, Aftertaste discovered a much more streamlined way of hunting its prey: by transforming into a sword and making a pact with someone brave enough to wield it. Aftertaste will not harm their wielder, so long as their partnership continues to be mutually beneficial.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with Aftertaste.

Sentience. Aftertaste is a sentient, neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 5, a Wisdom of 13, and a Charisma of 8. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 60 feet. It cannot speak, but it understands any language you know at its basic level.

Personality. Despite its limited intelligence, Aftertaste is a clever and resourceful creature. It enjoys the thrill of battle and is always hungry, though it can be satiated with small treats and scraps of food. It sees its relationship with its wielder as a sort of symbiotic partnership, but can easily start to act more like a loyal pet or companion when it is treated well.

Adhesive. Aftertaste has 3 charges, and regains 1d3 expended charges daily at dawn. After making a successful attack with Aftertaste, you can use an action and expend 1 charge to immediately grapple your opponent if they are Huge or smaller. While your target is grappled in this way, you can now make a Bite attack with advantage on subsequent attacks and turns. This attack does the longsword's normal damage on a hit, but the damage type is changed to piercing. It also does an additional 1d8 acid damage.

Your opponent can use an action to make a DC 13 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check to break the grapple on their turn.

Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
