Weapon (shortsword), very rare (requires attunement)

A deep purple bladed sheath, decorated with golden filigree that curls into text, reading "This is a home and inside lies death" in Abyssal script... this elegant scabbard was once a gift from a notorious spy master to his protégée, after they completed a particularly difficult assassination. However, after it is discovered that he was a sleeper agent for the enemy faction, the true intent of this gift has been called into question...

Once attuned to this item, you may choose a bladed weapon to sheath within this darkly magical scabbard. Inside it is enchanted by a hidden whetstone that makes the chosen blade as sharp as the day it was forged (only one blade can be enchanted per day). Once the blade is thus "blessed", it grants the weapon the following benefits;

  • This weapon gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls, and now counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.
  • As it is sharpened by the magical whetstone each time the blade is unsheathed, the weapon gains an additional 1d10 of magical slashing damage to all attacks.
  • You learn the Light cantrip and may cast it at will (only on the blade itself).
  • Once per day you may cast the Zone of Truth spell by striking the "blessed" pommel of the weapon against the temple of a single target. This version of the spell affects only that single creature and requires touch to cast.

In addition, the sheath itself grants you the ability to cast several spells. Whilst it is on your person, you can use an action to expend a certain number of its 5 charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC and spell attack bonus: Borrowed Knowledge (2 charges), Vampiric Touch (3 charges), Thunder Step (3 charges). Once all 5 charges are used, you cannot cast these spells again until the charges are reset at the end of a long rest.

Finally, the golden inlay point of the scabbard contains a small secret compartment containing two vials of the Midnight Tears poison. These are for one use only, and once used do not regenerate.

Proficiency with a Shortsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.

Notes: Bonus: Magic, Damage: Slashing, Damage, Buff, Combat, Finesse, Light, Vex
