Armor (shield), very rare (requires attunement)

his shield appears as a swirling vortex of shadows encased in a sturdy obsidian frame. Eldritch symbols glow faintly along the edge of the shield, pulsating in tune with the heartbeat of its wielder. The very essence of the shield seems to tug at the fabric of reality.

  • While holding this shield, you gain a +2 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.

  • Eldritch Ward: As a reaction, when you are targeted by a spell or magical effect, you can use the shield to absorb some of the energy. You have advantage on saving throws against spells and magical effects until the start of your next turn. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

  • Dark Pact: When you deal damage with your Eldritch Blast cantrip, you can choose to reroute some of the energy to the shield, strengthening its defenses. The next time you are hit by a melee attack, the attacker takes necrotic damage equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). This effect lasts for 1 minute or until triggered.

  • Void Step: Once per long rest, you can use an action to step into the shield's abyssal plane, becoming ethereal for 1 round. While ethereal, you can pass through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. If you end this effect inside an object, you are shunted to the nearest unoccupied space and take 1d10 force damage.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
