This amulet allows its wearer to draw upon their own life force to cast spells. The attuned creature can, if wearing it, cast a spell of any level without using a spell slot, suffering 2d8 psychic damage and one level of exhaustion for each level. Additionally, the caster may suffer an additional 3d8 psychic damage and 2 levels of exhaustion to ignore material components, and suffer an additional 3 levels of exhaustion to change the casting time to one action. All of these can be done regardless of whether any other amulet abilities were used. For example, the attuned creature can choose only to suffer 3d8 psychic damage and 2 levels of exhaustion to ignore the tuning fork requirement of Planeshift, without paying the extra damage and exhaustion to ignore the spell slot requirement. Any damage and/or exhaustion caused by these abilities is suffered immediately after the spell has been cast. If the spell requires concentration and the caster dies to this item, the caster may choose for how long concentration will last, but not issue commands or otherwise manipulate the spell. As soon as the caster is revived, any concentration on their spells is ended.
