Apprentice's Rod of Fire

This Rod of Fire may be wielded as a spellcasting focus, but it may only be wielded so with fire-based magic. While you hold it, you gain +1 bonus to spell attack rolls while casting fire-based spells. If a spell contains the keywords, "fire",  "fire damage", or "fire resistance" it is considered fire-based magic. Examples of fire-based magic include, but are not limited to, Firebolt, Absorb Elements (fire), Heat Metal, Fireball, Conjure Minor Elementals (fire), and/or Wall of Fire .

This Rod of Fire has 6 charges for the following properties. It regains 1d4-1 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1 the Rod of Fire disintegrates into ash.

Fire Absorption: While holding the Rod of Fire, you have advantage on saving throws against fire damage dealing attacks. In addition, you can use your reaction when another creature casts a fire damage dealing spell that targets only you. If you do so, the Rod of Fire absorbs the magic of the spell, canceling its effect and gaining a number of charges equal to half the absorbed spell's level (rounded down). However, if doing so brings the Rod of Fire's total number of charges above 6, roll a d20. On a 1 the Rod of Fire disintegrates into ash.

Spells: While holding the Rod of Fire, you can use an action to expend some of its charges to cast the following spells from it, using your spell save DC and spellcasting ability: Firebolt (1 charge), Produce Flame (1 charge), Create Bonfire (1 charge), Burning Hands (3 charges), Dragon's Breath (fire) (5 charges), Flaming Sphere (5 charges), Heat Metal (5 charges), Scorching Ray (5 charges).

Melt Lock: If targeting a metal lock with the Heat Metal spell from the Rod of Fire, you may do so without using any charges. If a metal lock is targeted with Heat Metal from the Rod of Fire, the lock breaks and is rendered useless.
