This amulet has a 3-inch, smooth, glossy, bluish-green stone hanging from it made out of the brain of a dead aboleth named Wroz'Kord. W'roz'Kord was an ancient, xenophobic, and manipulative creature that amassed a grand kingdom in the Underdark, where it reigned for centuries.
Throughout its lifetime, Wroz'Kord sought to become a more powerful ruler and was able to advance its intellect beyond that of its fellow aboleths. Along with its increased knowledge, it learned how to cast spells, some of which are conferred to the wearer of the amulet. The wearer also gains some of Wroz'Kord's other abilities that turn the wearer into a powerful force in and out of combat.
Although most creatures wouldn't know of Wroz'Kord, a creature can make a DC 18 Intelligence (Arcana), (History), or (Investigation) check to discern that the amulet is a very powerful item and abolethic in nature.
Random Properties. The amulet has the following randomly determined properties:
- 1 minor beneficial property
- 1 minor detrimental property
Properties of the Amulet. While wearing the amulet, you gain the following benefits:
- You have darkvision out to a range of 120 feet, or 180 feet while underwater.
- You have telepathy out to a range of 120 feet.
- You are immune to the charmed condition.
- Unless you already have it, you gain proficiency in the History skill.
- Unless you already have a higher swimming speed, you gain a swimming speed of 40 feet.
- Unless your scores are already higher, your Intelligence score becomes 21, your Wisdom score becomes 18, and your Charisma score becomes 21.
- The amulet has 9 charges and regains 1d8 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the amulet emits a psychic pulse and each creature within 90 feet of the amulet (including you) must make a DC 23 Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 99 (18d10) psychic damage and is stunned for 1 minute. On a success, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't stunned.
Abolethic Disease. As an action, you can expend 3 charges to empower your attacks for 1 minute. For the duration, when you hit with a melee weapon attack or an unarmed strike, the target must make a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or become diseased. The disease has no effect for 1 minute and can be removed by any magic that cures disease. After 1 minute, the diseased creature’s skin becomes translucent and slimy, the creature can’t regain hit points unless it is underwater, and the disease can be removed only by heal or another disease-curing spell of 6th level or higher.
When the creature is outside a body of water, it takes 6 (1d12) acid damage every 10 minutes unless moisture is applied to the skin before 10 minutes have passed. Once used, this action can’t be used again until the next dawn.
Enslave. As an action, you can expend 4 charges to force one creature you can see within 40 feet of you to make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is magically charmed by you until you die or until you are on a different plane of existence. The charmed creature is under your control, can't take reactions, and you can communicate telepathically with the creature over any distance. Every time you use this feature, you must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw, on a failed save your alignment becomes lawful evil.
Flawless Memory. Whenever you make an Intelligence (History) check, you can expend 1 charge to gain advantage on that check, tapping into the aboleth's memories from before the time of the gods.
Phantasmal Force. As an action, you can expend 2 charges to cast the phantasmal force spell (spell save DC 18) requiring no material components and with a range of 90 feet.
Probing Telepathy. If a creature communicates telepathically with you, you can expend 1 charge to learn the creature’s greatest desires if you can see the creature.
