While most Wounded Eyes are knocked off of a beholder by chance and brought to life by rare wild magic, blood gathering and hardening into a stinger at the end of the torn optic nerve, this item is used to force the process. Any Beholder hit with the rod takes an additional 1D20 psychic damage. If a beholder is killed by the rod, 1D4 of its eyes will detatch. Any eye datatched in this way cannot be used to summon a Spectator, and will transform into a Wounded Eye over the course of 2D8 days. Wounded Eyes created in this way know the location of whoever used the rod, and are friendly to their creator, purged of the normal compulsion of Wounded Eyes to hunt down and kill whoever severed them from the Beholder.
