Wondrous Item, rare

This bronze arrow is engraved with runes made of five different types of gemstone dust.

When you take the Attack action, you can expand a charge to use the Arrow as a special ammunition in order to make the special Attack action "Whistling Arrow". Note that doing so prevents you from using your Multiattack feature if you have access to it. The Arrow has 5 charges. It regains 1d4 + 1 expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the Arrow's last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the Arrow crumbles into ashes and is destroyed.

The Whistling Arrow has the following properties

  • As part of the Whistling Arrow action, you can make a Ranged weapon attack a number of time equal to your proficiency bonus. You can attack different targets or focus several attacks on the same creature if you wish, as long as the target is within the range of the weapon used to fire the Whistling Arrow.
  • You need to wield a weapon that uses arrows to be able to use the Wistling Arrow. You also need to be able to whistle to control the Arrow once it has been fired.
  • The Whistling Arrow is considered to be moving throught and around its targets to reach them and therefore can attack creatures behing full cover (as long as there's a way for the Arrow to reach them) if you have an idea of their general location, as the Arrow seeks them out on its own.
  • For every successive attack after the first, the attack roll is made with a cumulative minus 3 to the roll (2nd attack : -3 / 3rd attack : -6 / etc.).
  • Any succesfull attack deals 1d8 + WIS modifier Force damage.
  • You can use any feature that could be used on a normal ranged attack on a Whistling arrow attack (i.e. Sharpshooter, Battle Master manoeuvres, smite, etc.).
  • The Arrow cannot traverse a space that is subjected to an anti-magic spell or a similar ability, nor a silence spell as the sound of your whistling must be able to reach it. If forced to traverse it in order to reach its target, it falls to the ground, inert, until the anti-magic / silence effect is lifted or if the Arrow is carried outside of it.
  • Once the Arrow has been used, it automatically returns to your hand.

Alternatively, instead of making attacks, you can use the Whistling Arrow on a willing (medium size or lower) creature within range of an attack. The creature can then use its reaction to grab the arrow and be moved by it up to half its speed in any direction (as long as it is still within attack range of the weapon used to fire the Whistling Arrow) without triggering opportunity attacks. The Arrow can only carry one creature at a time with this feature and can only be used this way once per turn.
