The sword appears to be a broken longsword with the blade snapped in half, through it is heavy with the regrets of previous wielders. The metal running cold with the failed dreams of the ancestors.
Sentience. The Ancestor's Sword is a sentient lawful evil weapon with an Intelligence of 18, a Wisdom of 20, and a Charisma of 24. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet. The weapon communicates telepathically with its wielder and can speak, read, and understand Common
Dormant. When you attune to the Ancestor's Sword in it's dormant pick one of the following damage types: Fire, Cold, or Lightning. The type cannot be changed once picked. As a bonus action you may call upon your ancestors to reform the broken blade, changing the damage dice to a d8, changing the damage type to the type previously chose, and the sword gains the versatile property. The blade also gain's the following:
- While the sword is transformed, you gain a +1 to attack rolls and damage rolls made with the weapon.
- Once per turn when you hit someone with the reformed blade, you can force the target must succeed a DC 13 Wisdom save throw or be frightened of you for 1 minute as the shadow of regret looms over them. On a success, the target is immune to this effect for 24 hours. The target is immune to this effect if they have no regrets.
Awakened. While the Ancestor's Sword is in it's awakened state, you may chose one of the damage types you didn't pick previously or one of the following: Poison, Acid, or Thunder. The type cannot be changed once picked. When you use your Bonus Action to reform the blade you can chose this new damage type or the type you chose before, and you may use a Bonus Action on subsequent turns to change the damage type. You also gain the following benefits:
- While the sword is transformed, you gain a +2 to attack rolls and damage rolls made with the weapon. Additionally, when you hit with the sword while it's reformed, the target takes an extra d8 of damage.
- As an action, you can call forth aid of your ancestors to cast spiritual weapon at 2nd level. When you cast it this way you change the damage type from force to the same type as your reformed blade. You can't use this property again until next dawn.
- The DC to resist being frightened increases to 15.
Exalted. While the Ancestor's Sword is in it's awakened state, you may chose one of the damage types you didn't pick previously or one of the following: Radiant, Necrotic, Psychic, or Force. The type cannot be changed once picked. When you use your Bonus Action to reform the blade you can chose this new damage type or the type you chose before, and you may use a Bonus Action on subsequent turns to change the damage type. You also gain the following benefits:
- While the sword is transformed, you gain a +3 to attack rolls and damage rolls made with the weapon. Additionally, when you hit with the sword while it's reformed, the target takes an extra 2d8 of damage. You also gain resistance to the same damage type as the damage type your blade is transformed to.
- The DC to resist being frightened increases to 17.
- When you cast spiritual weapon with the blade, you do so at 4th level.
- The regrets of the sword begin to wain on your mind, allowing you to think clearly once more. The user has advantage on saving throws to avoid being frightened.
Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
