A sentient sword created by fusing a soul with black steel. Amalgamate has a symbiotic bond with its wielder and is reliant upon them to achieve its desires. These desires being to grow and develop greater intelligence through combat. This sword starts as common as any longsword until the owner uses it in battle. As it kills the host's enemies it begins to transform and grow more powerful. This weapon is cursed and no magic can remove the curse. If anyone attempts to take Amalgamate from its host or remove the curse it animates and attacks them perceiving that is defending its ally. The player may not wield any other weapon for Amalgamate will simply knock it away in a fit of jealousy. Shields are allowed as the sword perceives them as an ally to protect their host.
Over time it unlocks magic powers relevant to the strongest foes the host has slain and changes to has an appearance similar to the creatures. For every 5 creatures slain with this sword gain a symbiosis point to the weapon. Once 3 charges are acquired the sword empowers itself. This allows it to achieve several different things depending on a d6.
1- The sword increases in rarity by one level. So, the first time it would move up to uncommon and in essence become a + 1 longsword.
2- The sword develops a symbiotic bonus for the wielder granting a skill bonus depending on the strongest creature slain before evolving. Stackable
3- The sword gains a damage bonus of 1 to 3 roll a d6 and divide by 2. Stackable
4-The sword develops a sense of seeking its targets blood. Add +1 to all attack rolls. Stackable
5-The sword gains an elemental bonus and does 1d4 extra damage chosen from any available elements from slain enemies. If none are available add Force. 2 elements are able to be added at once. Every time past then one can be removed or enhanced if the elements can be stacked. In the case of stacking add another d4 to that element.
6- The sword develops a shapeshifting ability. Add 1 more weapon type it can become from any weapons you are proficient with.
Every 3 evolutions Amalgamate gains higher sentience. At first it has a stat block of 1 in all statistics however each sentience level added increases intelligence by 2 and all other stats by 1 or 2 roll a d4 and divide by 2. Once it reaches 10 intelligence it gains the ability to speak 2 languages its wielder knows and perform any checks the wielder is proficient in.
At 20 INT its growth halts and it transforms one last time becoming a strange copy of its wielder of the opposite sex with slightly different traits such as height, weight, hair etc. It becomes an ally at this stage that can use any of its past forms in the form of a magically created weapon. It does the same for its host creating magic forms of its past self for them to use. It now has all gained skills through evolution plus its owners. It becomes the same class and level as its owner and randomly must roll for a subclass gaining all benefits.
From now on it levels equal to the host and is effectively a living being in the flesh bonded to them for life. Once the host dies the swords mourns them then transforms into its child form of a common sword waiting for a new host to give it life again.
Proficiency with a Longsword allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Sap. If you hit a creature with this weapon, that creature has Disadvantage on its next attack roll before the start of your next turn.
