Arcane Source. An arcane cortex is a powerful arcane item that can function as an arcane focus. Arcane cortexes contain magic power that stands apart from the normal weave of magic. A magic core can act as a +1 spellcasting focus. This magical +1 bonus is not reduced by effects that would normally dispell magical effects, such as the antimagic field spell.
Crafting with a Core. The arcane cortex can be added as an ingredient when creating a magic or nonmagic weapon, armor, or item. Incorporating an arcane cortex as a crafting ingredient requires proficiency in the arcana skill. If crafted with a nonmagic item, it becomes a +1 magic item and gains the feature described above (Arcane Source). If crafted with an already magic item, the magic item gains the feature described below.
Dispell reversal. Once per day, you can use your reaction to eliminate an antimagic field or similar effect. You take this reaction when your magic item would be temporarily turned into a nonmagic item. When you do this, whatever effect was supposed to dispell the magic of your item is dispelled, and the effect cannot be used again at all if it was being created by a creature or other magic item. For example, a beholder that is subjected to this effect loses its antimagic cone ability.
