This dark and foreboding grimoire is bound in leathery hide, and its pages seem to shift with shadows. The Abyssal Grimoire emanates a palpable aura of malevolence, containing profane secrets and eldritch magic tied to the abyss.
-
Abyssal Insight: While attuned to the Abyssal Grimoire, you gain proficiency in the Religion skill, and your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make using Religion.
-
Abyssal Empowerment: As an action, you can use the grimoire to tap into the chaotic energies of the abyss. Choose one of the following spells: arms of Hadar, wrathful smite, or banishment. You can cast the chosen spell without expending a spell slot. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
-
Abyssal Affliction: The grimoire connects you to the abyssal forces. You gain resistance to psychic damage.
Abyssal Whispers: The Abyssal Grimoire whispers sinister secrets to its attuned wielder. While attuned to the grimoire, you may be haunted by hallucinations and unsettling dreams, suffering disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws.
To attune to the Abyssal Grimoire, you must perform a dark ritual during a midnight hour, reading aloud passages from the grimoire while surrounded by shadows. This process requires a successful Charisma saving throw with a DC of 17. If you fail the saving throw, the whispers of the abyss become more pronounced, and you gain a level of exhaustion until the next dawn.
Breaking attunement with the Abyssal Grimoire requires a remove curse spell or similar magic. However, the lingering echoes of abyssal influence may persist, causing unsettling visions and an aversion to bright light.
