A rare and dangerous species of vine that likes to wedge itself into small narrow spaces, waiting for prey. Numerous hateful looking thorns line its ambulatory vines. Embracing Bloodvine can detect the scent of blood from 30 feet away, as blood is its favored source of nutrients. Typically found in dense forests, where it crawls into tree hollows, burrow holes, or other cramped spaces, waiting for unsuspecting prey to wander too close.
Having an Embracing Bloodvine on your person can be quite useful, but also somewhat dangerous. Though it can be "tamed" to a certain degree, it must drink blood at least once a week, or it may begin to get a little frisky. It may choose a victim to embrace without your input... and that victim might even be you!
Bloody Embrace.
As an action you can hurl it at a creature with blood and speak the command word. The vines will lash out of its container and attempt to embrace the creature. The creature must succeed on a DC 16 strength check or be restrained. (Save ends at end of turn) While restrained in this way, at the start of each of the creature's turns the Embracing Bloodvine drinks some of its blood, dealing 2d6 necrotic damage (the vine heals for half of this amount, if it needs to).
A creature that does not have blood can still be restrained, but the DC for the strength check is 12 instead, and they do not take any necrotic damage from the Embracing Bloodvine.
You can use an action to remove the Embracing Bloodvine from a creature by succeeding on a DC 16 Nature check. Alternatively, as a bonus action you can offer it some of your own blood, (you take 2d6 necrotic damage) and remove it without a check.
Aversion to Flame.
If the Embracing Bloodvine takes fire damage, it will retreat into its shell (or the nearest cramped space) to escape. It has 50 hp and an AC of 14, but has a weakness to fire.
Notes: Restrained
